What We Do

  • Support individuals and families facing the end of life.

  • Assist with all aspects of end-of-life decision making.

  • Explain all options to achieve a peaceful, humane death.

  • Facilitate discussions about end-of-life choices between patients, physicians, and family members.

  • Advocate for effective pain and symptom management; excellent end-of-life care; and patient choice in the community, the legislature, medical institutions, and at bedsides.

  • Refer to hospice providers, pain specialists, social service agencies, support groups, and bereavement care.

  • Educate the public, health care professionals, lawmakers, and the media about end-of-life issues.

  • Promote the use of advance directives and communication about end-of-life wishes.

  • Uphold the rights of patients whose end-of-life wishes are not being honored, and the right of qualified patients to use the Washington Death with Dignity Act (DWDA).

  • Provide personal presence, if requested, at the time of a DWDA death.
